How do you find out?
Rock experts and geologists use prospecting methods to find out where there is stone in the earth.
There are many marble quarries in the world, in countries such as Portugal, Italy and Egypt, Greece, etc.
How is it extracted?
Quarries are built and then the rock is removed. The quarries are open-air. The stone is extracted from the earth by drilling, sawing and pulling huge blocks of rock out of the ground. The aim is to obtain a basic shape of a large rectangle, so that it is easier to shape it into what we call a Block.
How isnatural stone transported?
- After the stone is removed from the earth, it is examined to assess its quality.
- The stone of a particular color is put together. Impurities and cracks are removed.
- The blocks are transported from the quarries to the processing plants by truck.
